Sound & Silence: MOVE 2 - 6th Sept
Gabriela Goncalves Dancing since birth, Gabriela believes that the body itself is nature and the centre of action of senses, emotions, feelings and all connections with the world. It is through dance that her search reaches a greater meaning. Owner of an open mind, she seeks in the encounter with the other a more comprehensive path, through the body, movement, differences and education. Traveling around the world and learning constantly (body awareness, movement and consciousness methods, tribal and contemporary African dance, flamenco, ballet …) she believes that we can take our body and our soul in our power, because the body is the instrument for the formation of the world, and the modification of itself is the modification of the world.
African dances are a constant in her life since the last 10 years now, and it will just continue to be. The search she has been developing - Body in the Movement of Creation - has a direct link with the African dances, because it´s through them that she can experiment in her own body.
From the west coast of Africa, to afro-brazilian dance and afro contemporary, she continues to take classes, master classes and do workshops because she is always learning. Within her life she took part in some dancing groups, contributing to the creation of shows mostly as a dancer.
She also has her connection with the African culture, because she believes strongly in what she feels and achieves when she is open and exposed to this kind of dance, culture, music and rhythms that really affects her heartbeat.
"Dance is a state of being, it is a form of communication with myself and with the other, it is the pulse of every form of life that connects everything with the present - the moment is movement. I am just really heartfelt to be able to share with other hearts and dancing bodies the rhythm and power of the African dance."
African Dance Workshop
A dance workshop where we explore the African rhythms and movements.A mixture of traditional African dance with a contemporary view, in a very strong and energetic workshop. When we dance, we experience the connection to the earth and the roots that make us stay aware and feel strong - felt deeply within the body through movement. We practice physical coordination, memory, and flexibility until we feel the beat of our heart and connect in a collective trance - with the power of the African music.
